Gov. Markell’s ‘secret’ email address is not so secret

But his office still blocked a FOIA request to publicize the account.

Gov. Jack Markell must be a big country music fan.
As reported by The News Journal, the governor’s “top lawyer” has admitted Markell’s alternative state email address, alan.jackson@state.de.us, is one of the “worst-kept secrets in state government.”
The report states Markell has been using the email since his first term in 2008.
The administration has blocked an attempt to publicize the email account in a Freedom of Information Act request from State Rep. John Kowalko and open government advocate John Flaherty, president of the Delaware Coalition for Open Government.
Markell’s office also denied a FOIA request from The News Journal last week asking to publicize the past three years’ worth of emails, both sent and received, under any alias.
The request was deemed unreasonable and excessive.
