Ever wonder how big sporting events shape how the city moves?
Lyft pulled ridership data for all six Eagles home games this year (Sept. 24 through Nov. 26) at Technical.ly’s request, and the trends are kinda interesting.
Considering the pickup Zip codes of rides ending at the Linc, the most popular Philadelphia neighborhoods for game-day Lyft rides were four South Philly nabes: Pennsport, Bella Vista, Girard Estates and Point Breeze.
Are these die-hard Eagles fans with clever parking hacks or simply South Philadelphians avoiding the Broad Street Line (or the walk)? Hard to say, but you know Philly loves clever parking hacks. (Having a favored street-parking spot and taking a Lyft the proverbial “last mile” would be a good way to avoid the fees, and the parking lot traffic.)
Suburban fans also got in on the action. According to Lyft data, the top ‘burbs for Linc dropoffs during the same six-game span were Conshohocken, Upper Darby/Drexel Hill, Chester and Havertown.
And — not to be all Netflix about it — two ride-pinched fans deserve special awards for going the extra mile to see their beloved Birds. Shoutout to the 98-mile trek from New York City to see the Eagles trounce the Broncos on Nov. 5. The second-longest Lyft trip to the Linc: 77 miles from Colts Neck, N.J., to see the Eagles crush the Cards in Week 5.
See the data viz below. And go Birds.
