Dover police are using Pinterest to help you find your lost Civil War rifle

Dover joins a handful of police departments across the nation using Pinterest to advertise lost items.

Remember that time you totally misplaced your Civil War-era rifle (happens to the best of us)? Remember how you were then cruising the Pinterest ether and stumbled upon the Dover Police Department’s lost & found page, just to see a picture of your Civil War-era rifle? That was the best.
Now about three weeks old, DPD’s lost & found board is finding great success in getting lost items back into the hands of their distressed owners — a lot more success than previous methods.
“We make every effort we can to return items to the proper owners via phone or mail,” Corporal Mark Hoffman told the Dover Post earlier this week. “We even tried other forms of social media. But a lot of times people don’t live at the same address that’s in their wallets or purses or sometimes they’re just unreachable.”
Dover is far from the only department using Pinterest to broadcast lost items. According to CNN, police in Mountain View, Calif., Dallas, Texas, and State College, Pa., are all doing the same.
