When former State Sen. Margaret Rose Henry was first elected in 1994, she became the first African American woman to serve in the Delaware State Senate, and was the one of only four women serving in the chamber.
Long before that, Henry devoted her professional career working to the nonprofit sector, serving in management roles for organizations including Delaware Guidance Services, Girls Inc., Ingleside Homes, YWCA and the United Way of Delaware.
In 2017, Henry announced her retirement from the Senate, and was succeeded by Sen. Darius Brown in 2018.
Delaware Technical Community College, where Henry once served as assistant dean of human services for its Wilmington Campus, is honoring her in celebration of Women’s History Month.
