Find out what mapping tools the City of Philadelphia uses [Events Roundup]

It’s a good week for civic tech and open gov lovers.

First up, the city offers a peek into some of its internal mapping tools.

“Everything the city does touches geography,” said Mark Wheeler, the city’s mapping chief, and this event is an effort to show that.

It’s also a way to be more transparent.

“We’ve been using geography for a long time,” Wheeler said. “It’s time to be more transparent about the ways we go about doing it.”

Chief Innovation Officer Adel Ebeid appointed a whole new mapping team at the beginning of last summer. You’ll be able to meet them at this event.

Then, as part of the first-ever City of Philadelphia Integrity Week, learn about the Nutter administration’s transparency efforts.

Plus: This Thursday at 3:30 p.m., this reporter will be moderating a panel on the digital divide for an event hosted by Temple University Libraries. Panelists include Philadelphia FIGHT Chief Strategy Officer Lorelei Shingledecker and Tan Vu, Director of Center for Digital Inclusion and Technology at People’s Emergency Center.
