Used in cities around the U.S., ShotSpotter detection technology employs acoustic sensors to determine where gunshots are fired.
Add Baltimore to the list. The city will soon install the ShotSpotter system in east and west Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Sun:

The new system will work with CitiWatch, [Mayor Stephanie] Rawlings-Blake said, allowing police cameras to immediately focus in on areas where gunshots are detected.

Gunshot detection tech had previously been given a look by city officials, but the cost was prohibitive. A $305,000 state grant will pay for Baltimore’s ShotSpotter system.
Currently in use in Washington, D.C., the gunshot detection system has logged more than 39,000 “shooting incidents” there since 2006.
