Civic engagement made easy: Apply here to serve on a Baltimore city board

Want to influence policy on public art or off-street parking? Or maybe the (sad!) state of federal government has inspired you to get more involved at the local level.
Well, you’re in luck. The city has a new website that gives Baltimoreans a chance to apply directly to serve on the city’s boards and commissions.

Scrolling through the boards listed on the site, the first thing that stands out is the shear number of commissions. There are opportunities to shape development, health and city spending policy, as well as get involved in specific neighborhoods. Or, it could be a chance to learn. What’s the Wage Commission really all about, anyway?
It looks like a way to give citizens direct access to the process of choosing who serves on public bodies that oversee city life (and your taxpayer dollars). We’ll be interested to see how many citizens who apply this way end up serving.
Anyone interested can submit a cover letter and resume to apply. Just be sure to do it by March 1.
