A group of Maryland cybersecurity companies are in London this week attending a big industry conference as they look to deepen ties in Europe.
The Maryland Department of Commerce is leading a delegation to InfoSecurity Europe 2018, which drew nearly 20,000 attendees.
Representatives from the bwtech@UMBC incubator are among the group at the event, which runs June 5-7. Companies attending include Baltimore-based Terbium Labs and Phalanx Secure Solutions, Columbia-based Bricata and Silent Circle, South River Technologies of Annapolis, Greenbelt-based Cybrary and Odenton-based Glacier Security. The delegation also includes Rockville-based Cryptonite and Inky, College Park’s Untethered Labs, Gaithersburg-based Sepio Systems and Bethesda-based AI Logic.

“Attending InfoSec again this year is an opportunity to build on that foundation, encourage European companies to explore a Maryland location, and open international opportunities for Maryland’s cyber companies,” Maryland Secretary of Commerce Mike Gill said in a statement.

The Department of Commerce has been looking to give visibility to the state’s cybersecurity companies, leading a similar group to RSA in San Francisco in recent years. This trip comes as the state has been looking to open up new opportunities to do more business in Europe over the last year, as it looks to make the state known for cybersecurity on an international stage. Last year, bwtech@UMBC began a new program called the iCyberCenter, which gives international companies space and resources to explore the U.S. market from Maryland. Soon after, Maryland opened a trade office in London that’s focused on cybersecurity and overseen by iCyberCenter’s Andy Williams. The state also has a partnership with U.K. cyber hub Midlands Engine, which will be celebrated at a dinner during the conference, according to officials.
