Officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce will soon be hanging out at 1776, offering advice to the incubator’s startups on how to expand globally.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Department of Commerce to help startups realize their products have incredible market opportunities not just here at home, but also overseas,” said 1776 cofounder Donna Harris in a press release.
Through the so-called “Startup Global” program, Commerce officials will coach startups in 1776 and other incubators in Arlington, Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio and Nashville, Tenn.
“The Startup Global initiative will help entrepreneurs and early-stage companies to think global from day one by providing the know-how and technical assistance they need in order to export their goods and services,” Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said in the release.
A spokesperson for 1776 said the training sessions will be held by Commerce officials from various agencies including the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or the International Trade Administration, and are slated to begin in the spring.
