If you work in an office in New York City, there’s a decent chance you get your Amazon orders shipped there — because who wants to take one of those cards to pick up a delivery you missed at home.
But what if you feel weird about getting your new underwear shipped to work?
Enter Parcel, an East Williamsburg-based company that kicked off service in Brooklyn on Thursday.
For $5 per delivery, Parcel will redeliver your package or packages directly to your apartment, between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., within a one-hour window that you select. All you have to do is start shipping your stuff to Parcel and then let them know when you want it once they let you know it’s there.
The startup is serving much of the borough: the western edge, from Greenpoint to Park Slope, along with East Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights.
The company joins a growing suite of services that addresses some of old, dense cities’ unique pain points, such as Radiator Labs (which deals with the weirdness of whole-building heating), Shyp (the weirdness of shipping) and CAR2GO (the weirdness of owning a car).
The company was founded by Jesse Kaplan, who got his entrepreneurial start at Harvard with a late-night coffee shop he launched there, according to a release from the company. The company closed a $1 million seed round this summer from David Cohen, Liberty City Ventures, Great Oaks Venture Capital and Jon Keidan. It has five full-time staff and eight part-timers at the moment, according to Kaplan.
