So, you want to organize a meetup…

There's more to community building than free pizza. The organizer of the MD Cyber Meetup provides a behind-the-scenes look.

Cybersecurity has been noted as one of the key industries to watch in 2018. To give the people in this dynamic industry a place to come together, Cybersecurity Association of Maryland, Inc. (CAMI), where I work, puts on meetups.
We connect job seekers with companies who want to hire them, technology and service providers with potential customers and promote the growth of the state’s cybersecurity workforce through partnerships with Maryland education and training institutions.
Planning MD Cyber Meetup events certainly keeps me on my toes. Our goal is to give attendees a first class experience from the beginning of their registration through the moment when they walk out the door after the event. We strive to keep the programming new and exciting, whether that is through member cyber company presentations or presentations from industry CISOs outside of the cybersecurity industry. We want to be able to give attendees a space to learn from each other and receive an experience unlike anything else.
As you can imagine, this creates a unique atmosphere for our meetups (and we’re told we add a bit of fun, as well!). Our attendees arrive full of enthusiasm and eager to share ideas. Everyone in this industry is motivated by these new ideas and connections. Walking around the room, there are talks on innovative new technologies alongside genuine input from individuals helping one another succeed. I feel so fortunate to work in such a dynamic industry and to be surrounded by people with such vibrancy and talent. We’re looking forward to meeting more local Baltimore meetup organizers and members at this year’s Super Meetup 2018!
