A new monthly meetup group at Comcast NBCUniversal’s LIFT Labs accelerator hopes to curb the pervasive gender inequities of venture capital.
The goal of the monthly event series, called Female Founders and Funders, is to connect female entrepreneurs with female investors, offering a safe space for informal conversations on fundraising and startup creation. The second event of the series after a February kickoff is happening this Friday, March 22, at the Comcast Technology Center.
The event will also feature office hours from a broad range of investing and entrepreneurship groups: Robin Hood Ventures, Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures, Temple School of Business, 1776, Philly Startup Leaders, Backstage Capital, Ben Franklin Tech Partners, TechGirlz, Chariot Solutions, Gabriel Investments, Venture for America, Techstars, Dreamit, JumpStart NJ, Broad Street Angels, AVG Women’s Fund and Delaware Crossing.
“We hear the concerns that female-led companies are not getting the investments that they need,” said TechGirlz founder Tracey Welson-Rossman. “Having more female investors in the Philadelphia region is just a good act of business, and there are women who have the means to be angel investors and might not now how they can participate. A meetup like his can help bring those two worlds together.”
RSVPP.S. Applications for the company’s accelerator program are now open and close April 7.
