Drone videos are cool and all, but is the next frontier the 360-degree virtual reality video?
Dev shop Tonic Design made one that showcases Philly spots like the Ben Franklin Bridge, the Navy Yard and FDR Skatepark. They hired local model and actress Narci Regina to star in it. It’s especially crazy on your phone, where the image shifts in concert with your movements. (You can’t get the full VR experience without a device like the Oculus Rift or Google Cardboard, unfortunately, said Tonic Design controller Leon Degtar.)
Here’s Degtar on how they did it: “We use a 3D modeled rig that holds 14 GoPros to shoot, then we work some magic through software and editing to stitch it all together.”
Watch it below. Again, the smartphone experience is tops.
