SmartLogic is known for organizing events around the Baltimore tech community. With a conference coming up this month, the web and mobile application development agency is gathering the Elixir and Phoenix community from the around the globe virtually for a language-specific event.
The Elixir Wizards |> Conference is gathering developers building technology and companies with the programming language Elixir, and the framework Phoenix.
Held on June 16 and 17, the virtual event features keynotes, panels, short-form talks and networking.
RegisterTalks include:
- “The Next Digital Divide,” by Randall Thomas, founder of Thunderbolt Labs
- “Women Leading in Elixir,” a panel featuring technologists from Blinker, PagerDuty, and Frame.io
-
“Dealing with a Monster Ecto Query,” by Mackenzie Morgan, Senior Back-end Engineer at Axios
SmartLogic has been evangelizing the benefits of Elixir for a few years now. As Director of Development Operations Dan Ivovich wrote in a 2019 Technical.ly guest post, the company was long passionate about Ruby on Rails, but recognized over the latter half of the last decade that Elixir offers a “toolset that is perfect for data-driven applications.”
“Most modern web applications are just that, data driven,” he wrote. “The application’s flow is a function of the data: data provided by external systems, data provided by the user, and data that is computed. Elixir’s functional programming, Erlang’s solid foundation and the power and ease of use of Phoenix combine to create a great environment for building today’s web applications.”
The agency’s developers started a podcast, which has the same name as the conference.
