Close your garage door, and more, remotely from one app.

Can’t wait around at home for the Comcast technician who’s scheduled to hook up Internet service at your house?
Use AT&T‘s home-automation service and app, Digital Life, and open the door for the technician remotely from your office desk.
The app, first introduced in 15 different cities in April, is expanding to seven more cities Friday, including Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Digital Life users can remotely control the opening and closing of doors, home security and more in a single app through a series of in-home sensors that come with each separate Digital Life package available for purchase.

  • Video Package: View live video from inside and outside of the home
  • Energy Package: Control appliances, lighting and HVAC for convenience and energy efficiency
  • Door Package: Invite a pet sitter or repairman in remotely with automated door locks, or check to see whether your garage door is open or closed
  • Water Packages: Detect water leaks before damage occurs, or, shut off water at the main water source if a leak is detected

A home security package is also available. Coupled with the service are staffers at digital monitoring centers open 24/7, available to call in police and fire authorities if needed.
As for the app: it’s available for smartphones, tablets and PCs, and operates on iOS, Android and Windows devices. And, according to AT&T, Digital Life is available “regardless of your wireless or wireline broadband provider.”
