DreamIt Health plans downtown move

Up until now, the accelerator has operated out of borrowed office space in Fells Point.

DreamIt Health Baltimore will soon be moving downtown, the Baltimore Business Journal reports.
The accelerator, currently building its second cohort, first entered Baltimore in Fells Point at spare office space owned by Johns Hopkins University.
The new space, however, will be all its own. The deal for 5,000 to 6,000 square feet will soon be finalized, managing director Jason Hardebeck told the paper.

Hardebeck sees the accelerator as an anchor tenant in what could be used as co-working space and offices for companies when the program is not in session. The accelerator program, which includes between eight and 10 companies each session, runs only 16 weeks from late December to mid-May.
A permanent office is just one way Hardebeck hopes to keep more companies around. The program is expanding its roster of academic and foundation partners this year, which Hardebeck said will mean more opportunities for accelerator companies.

The first class of DreamIt Health graduates included Protenus and emocha Mobile Health. Applications for the second cohort close Dec. 5.
