The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, added 3,500 square feet to its bwtech@UMBC incubator in September to accommodate the increase in the number of early-stage cybersecurity companies looking for office space.
Now UMBC might expand its bwtech incubator by another 3,500 square feet sometime later this year, as the Cyber Incubator inside bwtech currently “has 32 companies and only one dedicated office space available,” reports the Baltimore Business Journal.
In addition, the university is also considering adding an accelerator program to the incubator within the school’s Research and Technology Park, according to executive director Ellen Hemmerly:
The goal for the research park would be to take some of the high-growth companies already at bwtech@UMBC and place them into the accelerator program to help them reach that mature level quicker, she said.
