The inaugural Ignite Education event at City Neighbors High School on Thursday evening drew a crowd of more than 200 people as 16 presenters offered their thoughts on a variety of topics related to education, including closing the achievement gap between black and white students in Baltimore city, bolstering the city’s charter schools and a rather personal speech given by Danique Dolly, principal of City Neighbors High School, in honor of his father.

Among the speakers were teachers, parents, City Neighbors High School junior Connie Green and Nancy Grasmick, Maryland’s first female state superintendent, as well as Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who gave the final five-minute presentation of the night.
