37 creative directors and 104 aspiring professional creatives gathered at Huge on May 21st for the first ever Portfolio Night in Brooklyn, said a spokeswoman for the company. Portfolio Night is an evening for creatives to get feedback on their portfolios from professionals in creative agencies, organized by the Art Directors’ Club. This was the twelfth such event.
Anelese Webster was crowned “Portfolio Night All-Star,” and will be joining the Huge design team, supervised by Jon Jackson, who offered his thoughts on the creative process recently.
To celebrate the event’s crossing of the East River, Huge made a special page for the evening, featuring a video about the creative process. If you have ever been the sort of person who has gotten lost in the process of making something, this video will make you want to get your old box of art stuff out right now.
Several creative executives at the event advised aspiring creatives to show diversity in their portfolio, according to this story from The Hang. One insight: if all your work seems to be rendered in the same style, no matter how good it is, it looks boring and suggestions a lack of flexibility.
