Employees of Comcast’s Technology and Product team are planning to rally against President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration (also known as the “Muslim Ban”) on Thursday afternoon, our sister site Technical.ly Philly first reported.
Rallies are planned to take place at the media and tech giant’s HQ in Philadelphia as well as at other offices around the country — including the one in D.C., multiple internal sources told Technical.ly.
In D.C., the rally will start at 1110 Vermont Ave. NW at 2 p.m. — the location where Comcast Labs is based. Rally participants plan to march from there toward the White House, Comcast open source community development lead Shilla Saebi told Technical.ly. Saebi works in the Comcast Technology Office in Reston, Va., where employees will also be holding a rally at Reston Town Center.
On social media, rally participants across the country are gathering around the hashtag #TechHasNoWalls.
According to Technical.ly Philly, Comcast execs have remained quiet on the subject of the immigration ban thus far. “We understand that some of our employees are concerned and we respect their desire to express their opinions,” Comcast spokesman John Demming said in a statement emailed to Technical.ly. “Our primary focus is to make sure that all of our employees feel safe in their jobs, including while traveling.” That said, Comcast CTO Sree Kotay does plan to join the rally in Philly.
With this rally Comcast employees will join those of other corporate giants in making their voices and concerns heard — Google employees in Mountain View, Calif., rallied on Monday and both cofounder Sergey Brin and CEO Sundar Pichai participated.
