Bethesda-based BrainScope has been awarded $500,000 by GE and the NFL to keep testing its handheld concussion diagnosis device.
Last year, the company emerged as one of 16 finalists of the NFL Head Health Challenge I competition and was awarded part of a combined $10 million fund.
This allowed BrainScope to test its handheld concussion detection technology, which could possibly help diagnose cases without the use of neuroimaging technology.
“The learnings from the first phase of the Head Health Challenge have provided valuable insights as a foundation for this next phase of multi-site studies in high schools across the United States,” CEO Michael Singer said in a press release Thursday.
With the additional funding, BrainScope will continue testing the devices in high schools, after six years of studies conducted on student athletes.
