Technical.ly is a community of professionals, and we help our readers and clients meet each other. We want to do that better, and we’re getting help from our brand new VP of Product Carrie Bucci.

Bucci’s background reflects how we define product at Technical.ly: making connections for our community.

Most recently Bucci has led people operations for creative agencies and product companies. She led a recruiting and HR consultancy, and was active in the Disrupt HR event series. She maintains a career coaching practice — and is a certified yoga instructor to boot. Earlier, though, the North Carolina native served as a community manager for online-offline marketplaces like Yelp and Google Places as they rolled out local strategies.

As the founder and CEO of Technical.ly, a news organization that has held a community-service approach, we look for teammates who can blend our own approach with expertise from other industries. Bucci is just that. I had a conversation with Carrie in her second week as a chance to introduce what she’s bringing to Technical.ly and our community of technology professionals.

Watch the interview below and look for these highlights:

  • Why Technical.ly?: An investment in community, diversity and company values long before those issues were widespread at tech companies. The mix of journalism and the best of digital media has stood out, too.
  • What is the biggest of the many challenges facing HR professionals right now? Retention and burnout issues as the economy recovers from the primary COVID pandemic disruption.
  • What are Carrie’s top priorities?: Growing an HR community of peers and clients; improving Technical.ly’s community online tools to complement our track record of in-person community and finding ways to surprise and delight clients and readers.
