Get free startup advice and services at JumpStart StartUp

JumpStart StartUp is like a holiday kiosk, but for business services.
The first 1,000 entrepreneurs to walk through the former location of the old Puma store at 1505 Walnut St. — from Oct. 25-29 — will get free advice on how to start or scale their business.
“We want to empower start-ups with the very best systems that will enable them to accelerate their success while lowering their risk, so they can invest more into growth, innovation and scaling,” the event’s website reads.
The premise sounded a bit vague, so we reached out to serial entrepreneur Jen Groover of Media, Pa., who is leading the project alongside pop-up shop marketers JBC and Associates, to find out what that actually means.
“We’re going to be offering different services and tangible products for free,” Groover said. “Anything from helping people open bank accounts at TD Bank, and Comcast offering guidance on their services. From free business cards to guidance on accounting. Free company videos, headshots.”

Groover, who has been in the entrepreneurship game for 20 years, said the idea was a response to seeing good ideas fall by the wayside because of the complexities of starting a business.
“What drives me is taking the guesswork out of something that doesn’t need to be so hard so people can focus on the products they’re offering,” she said.

Philly is going to be the lead city for the project, and organizers plan to scale it out to 10 cities nationwide.
