Happy fall, Baltimore. As October arrives, we’re kicking off lots of things all at once. It means the fourth quarter of the year is underway. It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month. And it’s Tech + Health Month on Technical.ly’s editorial calendar.
Similarly, the events calendar is filled with a mix of technical meetups, industry conferences and a chance to learn from entrepreneurs about building startups. Even the format is a mixed bag, with some in-person events starting back up, while others are staying virtual in the pandemic. Some are going hybrid.

Minority Innovation Weekend 2021
The Saturday summit is helping founders of color with resources to get started and a chance to showcase startups. Tracks focus on startup fundamentals, cybersecurity, healthcare technology and environmental technology. The annual event is organized by the National Society of Black Engineers — Baltimore Metropolitan Area Chapter’s Minority Innovation Entrepreneurship Program, and is sponsored by Fearless.

Maryland Life Sciences Bio Innovation Conference
The two-day event connects the life sciences industry, including big brands, startups and venture capitalists. With 79 speakers on the agenda, keynotes include Ellison Institute CEO Dr. David Agus and Dr. Gary Disbrow, director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

Comparing Online Donation Form Providers
The Baltimore Techies For Good meetup explores online donation form providers for nonprofits, and the pros and cons of each. Zac Heisey, cofounder of Baltimore’s Good Neighbor Agency, leads the conversation.

2021 StarTUp Accelerator Showcase
The latest cohort of Towson University’s accelerator program will feature product pitches from seven teams from around the region. It’ll take place at the university’s new StarTUp at the Armory space in downtown Towson, and include remarks from TU President Kim Schatzel, TU Executive Director of Entrepreneurship Patrick McQuown, Baltimore County government and UpSurge Baltimore.

Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers
The conference addresses university-based entrepreneurship programs with the goal to collaborate on best practices, develop programs and initiatives to teach the entrepreneurs of the future. It has a focus on how universities can play a role in economic development through entrepreneurship, and plans to showcase Baltimore.

Enabling Cross-Boundary Data Science with Privacy Enhancing Tech
The meetup Data Works MD presents a talk from Ryan Carr, CTO and VP of engineering at Columbia-based data security company Enveil. He will discuss technologies that enable data to remain encrypted for the entire processing lifecycle, including a walk-through of two algorithms.

Waterfront Tech Series, Episode 13: Smart City 3.0
The series connecting businesses and technologists in Baltimore returns with a look at civic-facing tech initiatives in the city. Subtitled “Accelerating Baltimore’s Digital Transformation,” it’ll feature a look at projects from Digital Harbor Foundation, Baltimore Tracks, MTIP, Tricerat and Port Covington. A panel discussion will feature leaders from BGE, Baltimore City, LiteCloud, Project Waves, Radware and Catalyte.

Health Tech Entrepreneurs Meetup
At the MDC Studio-organized event, Kelliann Wachrathit will share perspective from a cross-disciplinary career in bioengineering, nursing, IP and regulatory work. She is now a commercialization academy fellow at Johns Hopkins Tech Ventures, combining her experience to evaluate the prospects for new inventions.
