Cybersecurity firm hires head of AI governance

Zaviant is doubling down on ethical AI practices by hiring a new leader of its AI governance practice group. Adam Stone has 20 years of data security and privacy experience and will consult with clients of ethical and responsible AI practices. 

Also, the Enterprise Center and new project director for its Pennsylvania Minority Business Development Agency Business Center. And SEI brought on an executive vice president and head of asset management.

News Incubator: What else to know today

• Venture for America abruptly shut down because of a “challenging economic environment,” firing 15 full-time staff members. [Technical.ly]

• West-Philly lab supplier EMSCO Scientific Enterprises Inc. received a $2 million investment from the Enterprise Center’s Innovate Capital Growth Fund.  The fund is Small Business Investment Company specifically targeting minority and women-owned businesses. [Philly Biz Journal/Technical.ly]

• Councilmember Isaiah Thomas announced the second annual PHL Gaming convention, to be held Sept. 14. Thomas’ goal is to make Philadelphia a gaming destination; he and Jumpbutton Studio hosted the first PHL Gaming event last spring. [PhillyVoice/Technical.ly]

• The University City Science Center announced Bon Ku, Michael Burychka, Dan Rhoton and Danae Mobley as this year’s Nucleus Awards honorees. They will be recognized at an award ceremony on Sept. 24. [Science Center]
