Judging by its website, new nonprofit Mazii has just launched (note the ‘lorem ipsum‘ filler text), but we can’t fault them for putting program first and website second, especially considering its next effort in Bed-Stuy. The organization, dedicated to bringing people together through technology, is pairing Internet savvy high schoolers up with seniors who want to understand how to work the Internet.
The group was founded by Andrea Lawrence, an IT instructor, consultant and member of the Brooklyn Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
The latest session took place last week at St. Philip’s Church and featured Microsoft Word instruction, hoping participants can bridge the digital divide together.
When first introduced to the Internet, many people, such as the senior citizens who attended last week’s session, find its visual language and design a bit baffling. There’s no shortage of youth in need of lessons in community activism, just like there’s no lack of seniors who might benefit from a better understanding of the web.
