Meet Jonathan Jenkins, 14 West’s new systems engineer

Baltimore native Jonathan Jenkins didn’t need to go far to find a job that’s a great fit.

14 West, based in the city’s Mount Vernon neighborhood, supports its clients with a variety of services, including personnel management, legal guidance and technology. With about 300 employees and growing, the company has used Technical.ly’s Talent Pro platform since 2019 to share stories about its culture and attract top job candidates.

What is your current role, and what are your day-to-day tasks and responsibilities like?

My title is systems engineer. I’m primarily responsible for all Linux systems managed in the environment. My day-to-day tasks include patching, performance toning, security remediation and forward thinking on open source technologies used in the environment.

What was your background before joining 14 West?

I am prior service Army, I’ve worked for companies such as Tenable Network Security, Johns Hopkins University and Brinks Inc. My technical experience is mostly in security and Linux administration and engineering.

What attracted you to work at 14 West?

14 West is local to Baltimore and is a growing company. The interview was really what piqued my interest, as the illustration of culture and autonomy in my position to bring in new technology, test and define my own path was pushed. Since taking the role, that promise has been kept and I am still excited to be here.

What are you excited about most in your new role?

I enjoy the people and culture at 14 West. It’s diverse, engaging and invites everyone to challenge the status quo.
What interests/hobbies/activities do you enjoy outside of work?

I run often (about 20 miles per week on average), play video games, read (favorite author is Kim Harrison) and I paint.
