SEPTA Key payment system launches (quietly) for senior citizens

The oft–delayed SEPTA Key, the transit authority’s smartcard payment system, is live for senior citizens, Billy Penn reported. Those 65 and up can use their driver’s license with the SEPTA Key turnstiles that have been installed around the city.

“Some seniors have found that they have been able to use it,” said Andrew Busch, public information manager for SEPTA. “It’s kind of been a word of mouth thing among customers.”

Philly Mag did some follow-up, finding that the city’s crafty seniors made 11,000 SEPTA Key trips in March — all via word of mouth.
“We didn’t make any kind of announcement,” Busch told Philly Mag.
