In a field with ever more detailed technical specificity, who couldn’t use the tasting menu?
That’s been the long-standing mantra of Technical.ly’s Developers Conference, held since 2013 during Philly Tech Week presented by Comcast.
Though the conference is part of Philly Tech Week, it has always been attended by, and full of lessons for, curious technologists from anywhere. While formats and flow have morphed through the years, that one goal has remained true: share case studies by serious practitioners using a range of languages and new tools to confront big organizational problems.
Software engineers, developers and other technologists come to learn more of what they know well, and lean deeper into approaches they’ve used less. With hundreds of attendees and dozens of the region’s fastest-growing engineering teams represented, it’s become an anchor event in its own right.
As part of a reimagined Philly Tech Week 2020, this traditionally hands-on event transforms this year to a completely virtual activation. The 2020 Developers Conference has been constructed as a richly packed yet flex-style event, with tech talks, personalized employer connections, company culture discovery breakouts and maximized interactivity.
Rather than morning coding workshops and a packed afternoon of multiple sessions taking place at one time, this year’s Dev Conference will feature single sessions running the entire day; coding workshops will happen on another day.
Sessions follow three tracks:
- What’s Next — Describe problems addressed in an experimental environment using cutting-edge tools
- Growth Stage — Describe problems addressed with a technology that is being tested, deployed and/or scaled
- At Scale — Describe problems addressed with technology being used by millions
Here’s the day’s schedule:
- 9 to 9:45 a.m — Welcome and discussion
- 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — What’s Next
- 12 to 1 p.m. — Lunchtime roundtables and break
- 1 to 3 p.m. — Growth Stage
- 3 to 5 p.m. — At Scale
Speakers will include prominent leaders at companies such as Comcast NBCUniversal, URBN, Linode, Cerner, Lutron and TD Bank.
The day will feature half-hour case studies and frequent breaks and activities to combat web fatigue.
Registration will go live Aug. 27. Tickets will cost $50 with scholarships available.
