Out of Philly: A free student-made app that assesses college costs
40 high schoolers from across Philadelphia gathered every Monday evening at the University of Pennsylvania to work on creating Finiverse, a tool that shows how factors like financial aid might affect the cost of attending various schools, and even estimates how majoring in different subjects might affect repayment plans.
While developing the app, the students learned that public colleges have a lower sticker cost, but often offer less institutional aid than private universities — which provided key context as they went through their own college admissions process.
