San Francisco-based curbFlow is officially launching its DC pilot

San Francisco-based curbFlow, a company that curates a curbside parking management system to collect data and share it through an app, is officially launching its pilot program in D.C. on Thursday. The effort is in conjunction with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) for its curbside pickup-dropoff (PUDO) program that launched in October 2017.

As Technical.ly DC previously reported, curbFlow will pilot its management system at nine locations in D.C beginning on Aug. 1.

During the pilot, parking will be removed for 12 weeks at these locations to create curbFlow loading zones for commercial activities, a press release states. The loading zones will only be used by commercial and private vehicles that are operating in ways like picking up a food delivery or other online delivery services. Participants will use a free app for curbFlow data, and local commercial operators may register to be a part of the pilot.

The pilot launch was commemorated with a ribbon cutting and demo event on Thursday at 1 p.m. at one of curbFlow’s pilot locations set up at the 1200 block of First Street SE at M Street. Ali Vahabzadeh, curbFlow CEO and founder; Jeff Marootian, DDOT director; and Sahil Rahman, cofounder of the nearby RASA Indian Grill, were all present at the event to share the details of the pilot.

curbFlow’s first nine locations are:

• 1200 block of First Street SE
• 1200 block of H Street NE
• 400 block of Eighth Street SE
• 1100 block of Fourth Street SW
• 300 block of Tingey Street SE
• 200 block of Third Street SE
• 700 block of Maine Avenue SW
• 1400 block of 20th Street NW
• 1000 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW near M Street NW

D.C.’s curb regulations are a hot commodity this summer since New York-based curb data company Coord also recently expanded its coverage to the District.
