StartUp PHL’s Call for Ideas grant program has reached its fifth iteration, and this time the goal looks pretty challenging: applicants must leverage some of the open data sets the City of Philadelphia has released as a tool to reduce the levels of poverty.
The call for submissions was announced on Wednesday through a press release by Mayor Jim Kenney and Commerce Director Harold Epps.

Epps said in a statement he was looking forward to seeing what people and organizations from Philly’s thriving tech community can come up with in order to help the city combat the present poverty rates.
Here’s a throwback: StartUp PHL’s Call for Ideas was launched in October 2012 and, since the launch, 20 grants have been awarded to organizations like Coded by Kids, TechGirlz, Philly Startup Leaders and Zivtech.
Applications for the program are due by Sunday, Nov. 13. Any questions on how to apply can be directed to the city’s director of entrepreneurial investment, Archna Sahay.
