Solar parklets // $360K for yak hair [Startup Roundup]

Who’s getting funded?

Bay Ridge’s mYak raised $359,955 on an offered $536,775 equity-only round, according to an SEC filing. Led by Paola Vanza, the company makes clothes and home goods from baby yak hair. Here’s a bit more about the advantages of working with Tibetan yak ranchers from Vogue Italy.

Who’s making moves?

Sistine Solar is joining in with Parkolation in a crowdfunding campaign to build parklets that take up two parking spaces on a street, to explore alternative usage of public space. We first encountered the company’s Ido Salama at the Urban Future Lab. It will be contributing its artful solar panels to the roof of the parklet. The campaign has met its initial goal of $12,500 with 23 days to go.

A 19-year-old student at NYU Poly has launched Fresco, an image-heavy news app for iOS. This is only the latest app from the student, John Meyer, and his company Tap Media, which has previously released Real Aquarium HDAutoCorrect FailJust Light and Perfect Shot.
