One of the worst parts of being in a bad place is thinking you’re there alone.
In new series of short videos, Brooklyn designer Teddy Blanks and actor and director Alex Karpovsky (best known for his role as Ray in Girls) hear from celebrities and writers about their experience with psychoanalysis.
“All writing, in my opinion, is writing about people who are self-delusional in one way or another and what psychoanalysis does is it teaches you took look at yourself by taking away that screen and seeing who you really are and then hopefully you learn something about other people as well,” says Gary Shteyngart, one of the subjects of the videos.

In addition to Shteyngart, Blanks and Karpovsky’s Shrink series includes Sarah Silverman, Lena Dunham, Susan Orlean and more.
Blanks is known around these parts as the creator of the Periodic Table of Trash, the fantastic Dutch Masters emoji pack Rejoinders and as a partner at Williamsburg creative agency CHIPS. In April, we named Blanks as one of 10 Brooklyn designers you should know.
The videos are personal and serious and frequently funny. They are definitely worth a few minutes.
