We’ve run into founder Peter D’Orsi III at a few tech events over this past year, and we have to say that his new Web wish list startup WantsThis looks pretty sharp. Of course, he’s got some tight local competition with $1.4 million-funded wish list aggregator Snipi.
Duck Duck Go’s Gabe Weinberg – who promised to pen at least 100 posts on his blog this year – writes about some of the features he’d like to integrate on the startup search engine, including O’Reilly Paragraphs, more topic sources, strong documentation and an instant message search service. Weinberg has also interviewed DreamIt Ventures’ Steve Welch in a 30 minute video. That’s alotta Welch.

MIGHT BE WORTH YOUR TIME

Experimental mobile and Web developers and brothers Laan of Laan Labs have announced an update of its iVideoCamera app, which lets any iPhone record video and add real-time effects (though slower than the 3GS’s 30fps recording speed). The crew might be most known for its iPhone version of TweetDeck, but locally, it helped create the Rosenbach Museum’s Abe Lincoln app (There’s a stovetop hat for that) and Light Writer, which got some love from Philebs back in the day.

Serial entrepreneur Will Herman has some advice for startups that Technically Philly is liable to take on itself: get yourselves a solid advisory board. As Herman reminds, a good board isn’t something that should only happen after funding.
