Since The Queen was taken over by Live Nation in 2017, the entertainment giant has contributed to positive changes in Wilmington, such as a free Bob Marley People’s Festival and an expanded Ladybug Festival.

One thing that’s gone away since World Cafe Live packed up and left The Queen, however, is Wilmo Wednesdays, the weekly local music showcase hosted by Gable Music Ventures.

“World Cafe Live was very generous with the space,” said Gayle Dillman, who cofounded Gable in 2011 and the Ladybug Festival in 2012 with Jeremy Hebbel. “Live Nation, being a big company, has to be more selective about opening their doors. That’s just how it is.”

Gable wasn’t about to give up on Wilmo Wednesdays. They just had to find a suitable new venue — and they’ve finally found one at the Ernest & Scott Taproom at 9th and Market.

The new Wilmo Wednesdays will kick off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 with Wilmington rockers Rusty Blue headlining. Other acts performing include Evangelina, Lefty the Greatest, The Blues Reincarnation Project, Michael Hahn and Madeleine A, with Philly’s Alyssa Truszkowski as the featured standup comic.

Wilmo Wednesdays are free, with food and drinks available to purchase from the Taproom.
