The Walters Art Museum has digitized 600 paintings, drawings and other works created by American artists, museum officials announced in April.
These works are not only digitized, but are also available for download and public use.
View the works at art.thewalters.org.
The work, funded with a grant from the United States Institute of Museum and Library Services, includes rarely-seen pieces by artists including John Singer Sargent and John La Farge. All pieces can be viewed in the museum’s digital collection.
The project is in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibit, American Artists Abroad, which runs through June 22.
The museum has adjusted well to the digital age. Besides this project, the museum has posted much of its artwork to Wikimedia Commons and hosts regular Art Bytes hackathons.
