The much-loved locals at Union Craft Brewing are planning to move from Woodberry to a new location in Medfield next year, providing more capacity for brewing operations and more space for public events.
It’s not just about beer, however. Union wants to bring in other local craft experts.
According to Baltimore Magazine, the former Sears Roebuck warehouse and Hedwin manufacturer will also have a space called Union Collective adjacent to the brewery. The 87,000-square-foot space will have enough room to fit eight additional makers and retailers. They’ll have production onsite.
The idea is to provide room for the local businesses to collaborate and share resources.
“We’re creating Union Collective to bring businesses, jobs, visitors, and exposure to the neighborhood and city that has been so supportive of us. We believe this manufacturing and retail business complex will help Baltimore’s growing manufacturing industry prosper,” Adam Benesch, Union cofounder and director of operations, said in a statement.
Incubators often talk of having an anchor tenant. In this case, the established business that can help encourage others is behind the concept itself.
