1313 Innovation believes people from Delaware’s technology, medical and education fields can help make Wilmington a better place.
That’s why the innovation studio is hosting a two-day conference in November to celebrate local advancements in these three sectors.
Tech2Gether, the first large-scale event for the Wilmington-based organization, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4 and Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The Tuesday session will be held at 1313 HQ (1313 N. Market St.) and will feature speakers and topics surrounding medicine and education; Wednesday’s session, which will be held at World Cafe Live at the Queen (500 N. Market St.), will focus on innovations in technology.
We want to make Wilmington people proud to be from Wilmington with this event.
The event will feature speakers from a myriad of industries: Nemours Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety Steven Lawless; Jordan Levy, cofounder of Buffalo’s Z80 Labs technology incubator, a venture capitalist and entrepreneur; Wayne Kimmel, a venture capitalist, entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded his venture capital fund in 1999; Jeff Davison, a partner, with more than 30 years of venture capital experience, with Newark-based Leading Edge Ventures; and Christopher Wink, editorial director and cofounder of Technical.ly.
1313 Innovation Community Manager Megan Anthony said guests can expect continuous activity at the event. Participants will also hear from a startup panel and be able to watch and take part in various demos.
Drexel University will be showcasing some of its apps; DreamIt Ventures will be talking big data. The startup panel will be moderated by Mona Parikh, managing director of Start It Up Delaware. Panelists include John Kirk from MUNI-Tech, Mac Nagaswami from Carvertise and possibly leaders from the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus and Horn Program for Entrepreneurship.
Tuesday’s programming ends with a happy hour event; Wednesday’s event will conclude with an awards ceremony and concert at the Queen.
Single-day tickets can be purchased for $25 each; tickets for Wednesday’s innovation day plus the concert are $40; an all-access pass is $55. Meals are included.
“We want to make Wilmington people proud to be from Wilmington with this event,” Anthony said. “We want to celebrate Wilmington. It’s a good community. There’s a great ecosystem going on with all the startups.”
