Take a sneak peek inside the first of two Spaces coworking spots coming to Baltimore

Spaces is planning to add two flexible workspace options in Baltimore in the coming months.
In October, the Amsterdam-born company plans to open a 32,000 sq. ft. space in South Baltimore’s Stadium Square development. Part of a larger project that encompasses three blocks, the building is located on W. Ostend St., between Hanover St. and M&T Bank Stadium. Spaces will be spread over 2.5 floors of the building.
Community Manager Caitlin Howington recently took us on a tour of the space, which is under construction. In all, there will be 89 private offices. Many are glass front, pointing toward a more open environment.
As far as more communal spaces, there’s also areas for dedicated desks and open coworking for members, which Spaces dubs as “Business Club.” There are also a pair of meeting rooms. The space will have access to booths and meeting tables, as well as a coffee bar. There’s also rooftop access, and members get bike rental and wellness room.
Howington said the company seeks to create an environment where members interact. Spaces will be looking to host community events such as lunch and learns or evening network events once it gets up and running.
“We want our members to know each other, and be able to network with each other,” she said.
The company also has plans for a second location inside an Inner Harbor mall that’s largely been a shopping destination. Another 30,000 sq. ft. will be inside The Gallery at Harborplace. The fourth-floor area will have 106 offices, with 3,800 sq. ft. of business club.
The company joins a number of coworking spaces in the city, many of which were opened by locals over the last several years. Spaces, which is owned by office company Regus, has been on an expansion kick lately. The company is planning 200 new locations by the end of the year. Like WeWork, which recently announced plans to open at Harbor Point in 2020, Spaces entered Baltimore after opening up locations in the D.C. area, where it has locations in the District, Arlington and Chevy Chase.
While they’re not open yet, the number of private offices Spaces is offering stands out on first look. Howington indicated it presents the possibility for a mix of the kinds of companies in the space, from startups to larger businesses.
