Former OrderUp CEO Chris Jeffery is heading to Seattle to take a new top job.
Jeffery was named CEO of Seattle-based cannabis tech company Leafly. The company provides marijuana recommendations and reviews, and also has a budding news department.
“Building on Leafly’s established position as the world’s leading cannabis information resource, we are expanding our focus on providing consumers the tools they need to discover and purchase cannabis products,” Jeffery said in a statement. “With unprecedented momentum for legalization worldwide, we are uniquely positioned to help consumers navigate this new legal landscape with reliable information and a personalized experience that saves time and money when making purchasing decisions.”
Jeffery was a cofounder of OrderUp, and led the company through its acquisition by Groupon in 2015. The company was at one time in more than 40 markets, and had more than $100 million in annual sales. He initially remained with the Groupon after the acquisition.
Additional former members of OrderUp’s team are expected to join Jeffery in Seattle. Ross Moulton, who led product at OrderUp, is now Leafly’s director of product.
OrderUp’s name no longer appears around Baltimore or 26 other markets after Groupon’s decision to partner with GrubHub in August and lay off 60 people. However, the company still has a presence at a smaller office in Canton.
For its part, Leafly has been expanding around the world with a new office in Canada, as well as a new site in Germany. It also has a video platform. Stats released by the company state that its sites receive 13 million visitors a month.
