According to a Medium post published Thursday, the mapping company is heading to 15th and H Streets NW, which is a block from the White House. The move is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
“It’s classic DC — an old bank turned hotel turned nonprofit-run office space,” CEO Eric Gundersen wrote. “The details are exquisite — original mosaic tile, exposed brick, steel beams built to hold up a vault (the vault is now in the basement by the gym).”
Gundersen said the company looked at 75 properties for a new home. The company is customizing the space “so when you walk in you really feel, and know, Mapbox roots are locked in D.C.,” Gundersen wrote.
The move follows October’s closing of a $164 million Series C investment round for the company, led by the Softbank Vision Fund. It was the third largest deal in the D.C. area for the fourth quarter of 2017, and one of four area “mega-rounds” on the year, according to PwC and CB Insights’ MoneyTree Report.
Prior to that, the company had relocated its headquarters to 1509 16th St. NW in May.
Not bad for a company that only recently moved out of Gundersen’s garage.
