General Motors brought an established automotive name to the city’s carsharing market earlier this year by bringing its Maven service to the city.
Soon, the program will have another option to give drivers access to cars.
Maven’s Gig service is expanding to Baltimore this fall. Gig makes cars available for weekly rental for a flat rate, with unlimited mileage.
The idea is to provide a car to drive for a ridesharing service, and the weeklong rental adds the potential to add other types of tasks — or, yes, gigs. For instance, Gig has a partnership with grocery deliver service Instacart, which is also in Baltimore.
“The freelance economy is growing and Maven Gig is growing along with it to provide transportation solutions for freelance drivers,” Maven Chief Growth Officer Rachel Bhattachary said in a statement.
The Gig service is expanding to five other cities along with Baltimore. The company didn’t provide an exact date when the service would be launched, but said it’s coming in the fall.
