Geoswap, the young startup from recent UD grads Jason Bamford, Jordan Gonzalez and Keith Doggett, has been moving up in the world — literally, with a new office of their own on the second floor of 1313 Innovation in the Hercules Building.
You didn’t know 1313 Innovation had a second floor? It didn’t, until recently, when the space above the innovation space was opened up so that Geoswap could have its own office, rather than work in the main coworking space.
The second floor is a bit unfinished, with posh doors leading into cavernous relics of the old Hercules Building, but Geoswap and fellow UD startup BookBandit have made themselves at home.
The other upgrade is for the app itself. Geoswap 2.0, currently available for iOS (with Android coming soon), is significantly faster, more streamlined, and easier to navigate. The “wheel” design of the old Geoswap has been replaced with a calendar that takes you straight to the day you want.
When Geoswap launched, I thought of it as primarily a local discount app. You open the app, it locates you, you scroll through restaurant and bar offers that are happening right now. And it does do that. But it’s a lot more than that.
Geoswap’s partnership with Delaware Innovation Week is a great way to illustrate: DIW events will be listed on Geoswap, so you can see where and when they’ll be happening for planning purposes. What takes the app to the next level is that the event (or restaurant, etc.) has its own page within the app, where you can find all kinds of info — digital handouts, website links, contact information, agenda, videos, you name it.
As the event progresses, you can take and upload photos to the event stream and add comments. It’s all in the app — you don’t have to keep track of business cards or event programs if you want to connect with someone later.
“You can time travel,” says Bamford. “If you select a date in the past you can see everything that happened that day.”
The local discount feature is nothing to, well, discount, either. If you’re not very familiar with Wilmington or Newark and are coming in for DIW, it will show you on a map nearby businesses who’ve partnered with Geoswap, with discounts for users.
If you’re participating in DIW and have materials to add to your event’s Geoswap, or if you have a business and would like to become a partner, contact jason.bamford@geoswap.com.
