D.C. and Baltimore-based edtech company Legends of Learning, which is bringing curriculum-inspired video games to classrooms, announced on Thursday that it has raised $9 million in seed funding.
The company officially launched at the end of March, releasing around 900 games made by 300 game studios. All of this initial round are games that teach the physical and life sciences. The new influx of cash will go to expanding into new subject areas, and hiring more employees in order to accomplish this. (As we reported in On the Market last time, Legends of Learning is already working on the hiring thing.)
“The successful closing of this seed round will let us accelerate our focus on helping more teachers reach students with research-driven, curriculum-based education games,” cofounder and CEO Vadim Polikov said in a statement.
In a way, this video-based teaching and learning philosophy reminds us of Planet3, another D.C.-based edtech company (focused on 3D, immersive video games) that also raised big bucks ahead of its pilot program.
