Here’s the latest play by Comcast: a $30 million infrastructure expansion across Philly that will give 3,000 new businesses access to the company’s ethernet network.
With a reported deployment of 50 miles of new fiber optic cable, Comcast Business is gunning to cast a net that connects both Center City and University City, letting more businesses tap into a 100 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) network.

The company has reportedly already completed 90 percent of the infrastructure necessary for this push, so it’s encouraging business to start signing up.
“We’re proud to be making this investment here in our hometown,” David Dombroski, a regional vice president for Comcast Business, said in a statement. “As demand in Philadelphia for our high-performance Ethernet offerings continues to soar, Comcast Business recognizes the need to respond quickly to new businesses to provide scalable solutions that can meet demand as they grow.”
