When people ask PeopleLinx CTO Don Nawrocki if it’s possible to fully staff a tech company here, he says, “Well, duh.”
That’s what Nawrocki said as he accepted the award for Best Tech Manager at last night’s inaugural Philadelphia Timmy Awards at the Chemical Heritage Foundation. (Here are the startups who won the D.C. edition last fall.)
Tech in Motion, a meetup group organized by recruiters Jobspring Partners and Workbridge Associates, hosts the awards across a range of cities, including Toronto, which is also set to have its first iteration in August. D.C. will be hosting its second annual Timmy’s in September.
After three weeks of open voting for 30 community-submitted nominees, here are the winners.
- Best Tech Manager: Don Nawrocki, CTO at PeopleLinx
- Best Tech Startup: Curalate
- Best Tech Work Culture: Analytical Graphics Inc. (AGI)
Evan Gordon, regional director of Workbridge Associates, was excited to see more than 10,000 votes cast in the past three weeks. (Voters could vote once a day.)
Aaron McLean, COO of Stuzo and cofounder of Philly Startup Leaders, emceed the awards while commenting on the innovative growth the region has and will see, particularly with the recent partnership between Drexel and Brandywine Realty Trust to create a 14-acre “Innovation Neighborhood” around 30th Street Station.
Dawn McDougall, Code for Philly’s executive director, presented the Best Tech Manager award to Nawrocki, but not before mentioning how there were a record number of four Philly female tech managers nominated for the award — more than any previous Timmy has seen — which received a whole bunch of cheers from the crowd.
Philly tech companies like BioBots and Cipher Prime demoed their products after the awards ceremony.
