Six new startups formed at Johns Hopkins over the weekend.
On the Homewood campus, 3 Day Startup offered a crash course in starting a company. The organization began as a student group in Austin in 2008, and now goes to universities around the country. It was the first time the event was held at JHU.
At the Hopkins event, students learned about lean startup and prototyping, and even talked to potential customers, said 3 Day Startup’s Jeff Levine. The companies evolved as they pitched several times throughout the weekend.

At Sunday’s final pitch event before a panel of founders and investors, the ideas varied from a company leveraging portable, self-contained vertical farms to spread healthy produce to a mobile barber trailer and corresponding booking app.
Whether the ideas conceived end up having traction or not, Levine said the idea is to prepare students for what it’s like to found a company.
