Twelve startups were selected as semifinalists in the annual Cupid’s Cup Competition. As a result, they’ll be in Baltimore March 10 to pitch at Under Armour HQ.
Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, who sponsors the competition along with the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, will serve as a judge. Other UA staff will also judge, and investors will be on hand to meet with the companies. The judges will narrow the applicant pool to five companies, who will move onto the finals later this spring in College Park.
Here are the companies (several of which Technical.ly has covered), and the universities they represent:
- East Coast Lifestyle Clothing (Acadia University): A Canadian clothing line with a presence in 60 malls.
- Grip Boost (University of Maryland): A product that restores the grip of football gloves.
- Gym Supreme (University of Maryland): A fitness startup that designs the Mega Bar.
- Identified Technologies (University of Pennsylvania): Assesses job sites with aerial data from an unmanned aerial vehicle and dock station.
- Let’s Be Well RED (Duke University): Makes the GudNeSs bar to provide Indian people with proper iron dosage.
- OnYou (George Mason University): Makers of a magnetic smartphone case that can be used while exercising.
- Riide (Georgetown University): Makes electric bikes for urban transit.
- Scholly (Drexel University): An app that helps students find college scholarships (fresh off a dramatic appearance on ABC’s “Shark Tank”).
