Is it the shoes?
Baltimore’s own skateboard brand, Carpet Company, is coming to a pair of Nikes near you.
New versions of the Nike SB Dunk High feature a collaboration with brothers Osama and Ayman Abdeldayem, who’ve built a brand known for screenprints and graphic apparel, Complex reports. The shoes are printed with “Nike” written in Arabic — penned in calligraphy by the brothers’ father, Hossin Abdeldayem — and a reference to the Carpet Company.
Perfect footwear as you’re hustling for — or skating to — your next gig.
The News
Money alert: The U.S. Department of Commerce is dishing out $38 million in grants to support entrepreneurship and tech business growth. The Economic Development Administration’s Build to Scale (B2S) program, managed by EDA’s Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, awards the grants every year to tech-focused organizations that are working to create more economic opportunities. The deadline to apply is April 29.
A team of engineers in Baltimore is building the SueChef, a combination freezer and oven that harnesses robotics and AI to prepare meals — no human hands required. The team is looking to raise $50,000 through an equity crowdfunding campaign on WeFunder. It’s also joined the Maryland Neighborhood Exchange platform, which aims to galvanize local investment in new neighborhood businesses.
SPAC, SPAC, SPAC it up: The College Park-based quantum computing company IonQ is in “advanced talks” to go public. The company could be taken public through a merger with DMY Technology Group Inc. III, a special purpose acquisition company. The combo would boast a combined value of $2 billion.
